Get to work! And stop reading the newspapers! Seriously, this “economic winter” is bad, but nowhere near the 1930’s or even the 1970’s in terms of prices whipsawing, high interest rates and overall inflation. The media is making this downturn into a depression, which it isn’t. That doesn’t mean you need to get depressed listening and reading negative news. You’ll be much better off just going out and knocking on every door you can find.
You might not get the job you want, but as a student, you were in an “apprenticeship” to learn how to be a good employee. When you are hired as an employee, you should look at that job – and any job – in terms of an apprenticeship to one day owning your own business.
If you look at it from that perspective, your job options expand, because you’ll want to work in a number of different positions to learn as much as you can and apply those lessons as you move forward.
There may be more competition for jobs than there were a few years ago, but there are jobs out there. You just have to get in and start working. No matter what the economy, if you are a good employee, you’ll have more than enough opportunities open up for you.
