What’s more important, building a great sales team or getting my company profitable?
Some of that depends on the business you are in. Obviously, you can’t have profit without sales, but do you have enough sales right now to generate some profit? If not, I’d say take a good hard look at the business you are in and your market. Is there enough business there to make it worthwhile?
If you do have profit, then you are at least working with a customer base that is generating cash flow – at least enough to give you profit. What can you do to increase the number of sales to your base? What can you do to increase the dollar/pounds/euro amount they buy every time they buy? Most times, these are things you can do with your current resources, outside of hiring a sales force.
Generally, I advise (as do my coaches) to get profitable first before you engage in any type of team building – even on the sales side. Profit drives everything else. Without it, you won’t be hiring anybody
