I have been a hands-on small business owner and am looking at a new opportunity to grow. However, I just don’t seem to be able to find the time to further explore this new opportunity as I can’t neglect my current business. My team needs constant supervision. What should I do?
You suffer from a problem that is rampant in the small business sector –working “in” your business. The only way you can correct this problem is by working “on” your business. A Business Coach can show you how you can systemize your business, develop your team and effectively spend your time to gain the freedom of working “on” your business.
Most small business owners get caught into a vicious cycle of day-to-day operations that does not allow them to grow to their full potential. This is the reason my definition of an entrepreneur is radically different. According to me, an entrepreneur is a person who owns a profitable enterprise that runs without you –the owner, so you can work “on” the business instead of “in” it.
Systemization is key in achieving this goal.
Do you know how you can you get the team involved and engaged in the company objectives? Have you even shared your vision for the company with them?
Do you have a culture in your company? Can you develop one that matches your values, your customer’s values, your team’s values as well as your company’s values? What is your recruitment system like? Do you use a personality profile to match team members to their jobs? Do you have a systems or operating manual in place?
Demonstrate strong leadership, create a good work environment and most importantly, put systems in place. Document what each team member does and write a systems manual they can follow.
This way, you will be able to delegate work, build a winning team, put effective systems in place and free up your valuable time to look at growing your business.
