I presume you’re talking about network marketing in terms of multi-level marketing (or MLM), but these days, you can also look at network marketing in terms of your online networks and connections you can make through social media.
From an MLM perspective, that networking model is great for companies looking to lower their advertising costs while leveraging their distribution channels. It is responsible for a huge amount of dollar volume in terms of products moved and sold, but is still a “niche” type of business model – and I presume it will continue to be for some time.
In terms of network marketing in the context of social media, there is huge potential to market in this arena, as we have moved into a phase of business where people rely heavily on the credibility of their own social networks – more so than they do advertising, PR or even third party media.
Now, combining those two ideas is also interesting, and I suppose the question could be, how can you create an opt-in client base pulled from your social media network to leverage your efforts on the MLM side?
As in any sales equation, the key is to build rapport with your audience and have a great product. I’d be interested to hear how you go in leveraging one network to build the other.
